Low vision often may occur as a result of birth defects, injuries, aging or as a result of complications from diseases such as diabetes. It usually manifests itself in several forms, namely, loss of acuity (the visual ability to see fine details) or loss of visual field. National Library Board's project Deliver Me with SAVH The National Library Board (NLB)’s Project Deliver Me was launched in January 2009 to reach out to the less mobile in our community. This is part of NLB’s continuous effort to promote reading and lifelong learning. Sometimes we say that NLB stands for “No One Left Behind” because we believe that everyone has the right of access to our rich resources of library materials and collections. Project Deliver Me is a special service that rallies NLB’s staff, volunteers and other stakeholders in the delivery of library materials to the doorsteps of our less mobile library members. More than 100 members have benefited from this special service since its launch. Members get to enjoy the benefits of borrowing privileges with the Premium Membership which is extended to them at no cost. This membership entitles them to borrow eight library items for a ten-week loan period. Sign up today! Please register with Ms Pang Siew Gek, Library Co-ordinator either via email: siewgek@savh.org.sg or 62514331 extension 181. It aims to give participants the experience of how a visually handicapped person copes with the simple task of having a meal. You will enter a totally dark room escorted by our experienced visually handicapped servers. Apart from eating your meal, you will be encouraged to pour yourself a drink from a water container. The experience will heighten your sense of touch, smell and hearing to compensate the repressed vision. Click here for the Menu Selection Click here to download the Registration Form.
